RFID - Radio Frequency IDentification tags are here, right out of an Orwellian novel. What started out as a huge cost saving effort by manufacturers and retailers is now your worst nightmare. These RFID tags are being put on everything from your shoes, clothing, credit cards, passports to televisions and automobiles. "Readers" or scanners can read these tags from up to 20 feet away and not even touch you to gain your very private and secure information. These readers are in doorways, floors, checkout counters, etc.
Corporations and Government (and thieves) are using these readers to gain information about you, your buying habits, your whereabouts and your general movement of daily activities. Police can track your every movement. Thieves are using these readers to scan information right out of your wallet and purse without having to steal your purse to do it. Your most vital information; Social Security Number, bank information, where you live, etc. is being used right now to gather information about you. Car Rental agencies can read an automobile's information, who is driving, your home address, phone number, and all at 55 mph! These readers are also being used by police agencies at intersections to track vehicles. You are not safe anymore.
Anyone with a reader can sit and gather information on who ever walks by. For instance, someone sitting by a Security Checkpoint at an airport can find out who you are, where you live and now knows you are going out of town......
These RFID tags are the demise of society as we know it. Sound scary? Well, it is. And its happening right now! It's a 23 trillion dollar (worldwide) industry in 2006 alone and it is just the beginning. Sure RFID tags have good points like tracking newborn babies, medications to the right patients but the downside, woaaa, your identity would be gone in a split second with a swipe of a reader.
